Decisions in life

TOOLS OF SURVIVAL – Decision Making

We spend the majority of our lives making decisions, both big and small. Decision making is linked to our emotions. Be calm when you have a decision to make. Take a few deep breaths before you start analyzing the problem. Most of our choices should be meaningful and contribute to an end goal. One of the most common mistakes that people make when deciding things is that they don’t put much thought into the decision. Ask yourself what you are trying to solve. Look at your options and what you want the outcome to be.

Ask others for advice. If you don’t have the knowledge or experience to make a good decision, just ask someone for their advice. Add their suggestions to your own ideas before making a decision. Search online for more information. Get as much information as possible. The more information you have, the better decisions you can make. Acknowledge that there are no hard and fast rules for decision making.

The decision making process is never easy. We all hope to do our best. Many decisions involve a choice between maintaining the status quo or making a change. Don’t let making these decisions cause stress in your life. The more experience you have on the subject, the safer it is to go with your intuition.

The best way to make a decision is to think about how you are going to feel about it in the future. If you don’t like what you see, you may want to rethink your approach. Your subconscious has a wealth of reliable information from which to draw. Ask yourself if the decision you are making is really that important. If it is not, stop obsessing over it and just make the call. Trust your instincts, think about it, sleep on it, make your decision in the morning, and forget about it.

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?’
‘That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,’ said the Cat.
‘I don’t much care where -‘ said Alice.
‘Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,’ said the Cat.
‘- so long as I get SOMEWHERE,’ Alice added as an explanation.
‘Oh, you’re sure to do that,’ said the Cat, ‘if you only walk long enough.”
~ Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland ~

Before you speak, listen.  Before you write, think.  Before you spend, earn.  Before you invest, investigate.  Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive.  Before you quit, try.  Before you retire, save.  Before you die, give.  ~  William A. Ward.
